These are several of the tools that we explored for digital storytelling.
ANIMOTO
Animoto is a program that uses pictures to create a slideshow. The slideshow is very professional. You don't have to worry about transitions, etc., Animoto does that for you. If you don't like the way the slideshow is done, you can have Animoto redo it.
I can see using Animoto with my students in a variety of ways.
Plant unit - I could have various parts of plants that students would need to identify the plant and/or the plant part.
Math - students will be taking pictures of 2D and 3D shapes which they could put together in their own Animoto.
Other - We could pick any topic or concept that students would either need to take pictures of the concept or find pictures and create a slideshow.
Story Jumper is a program where students can create their own illustrations and story to create a book. This would be a very motivating way for students to create stories. There doesn't seem to be a way to embed the story once it is done. You can order a hardcover book (great for parents!), but I was also able to print my story out. I am also able to set up my class under my username and password. I like that because then I can access their stories for editing purposes (before the final printing).
Possible uses:
*Student choice writing
*Science or social studies concept books
*Math story problems book
VOICETHREAD
Voice Thread is a discussion thread (either orally or written) that can be used in many ways. I have included a voice thread that I created and didn't have anywhere before this class to put it (embed it). I see it as a valuable way to have a discussion. Those that don't like whole group discussions don't feel as threatened. Students can choose to respond orally or in writing.
Possible uses:
*Posting student work (poems or artwork) and having them comment on each other's work.
*Posting a math problem and students can show different ways to solve the problem.
*Predicting - having students predict what will happen next in a picture or what will happen in a science experiment.
